A distortion of the senses, which the illusionist cleverly uses to successfully express his trick. I started designing with that in mind. How can I disrupt the human brain which it normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation? How can I distort the reality of our perception to create something new?
With these questions and the pencil in my hand I went to investigate. Which object – what you use daily or placed in your environment – has such dominance on the brain that when you see one part of the object, the brain fills in the other part for you?
After several products had been reviewed I ended up with the simple lampshade. A shape that everyone in the world knows as a conical shape, regardless of the size. On a deepening of this shape, I discovered that color and light are the two additions that make a lampshade a lampshade. Especially a light fabric cream color, makes it a real lampshade.
I started sketching with these data. The search for the possibility to create an Illusion was new to me and not an easy task. However, the more difficult the assignment I had given myself, the more challenging it became to come up with a solution and design. And the solution came. And the solution came. At first in raw form, but soon the concept was clear and the first designs were on paper. The Illusion was born.
I started sketching with these data. Now that the concept was known, I started creating a family around this illusion.
This family now consists of 7 models, so that a model is available for different rooms and applications. In addition to 7 models, I have introduced an exclusive line within the Illusion collection. A special technique is used to make this possible.
When looking for a name for this collection I didn’t have to think long. It became the Illusion. It became the Illusion.
It was a fantastic collection for me to work on. And I hope you can apply the collection in many beautiful projects.
With kind regards,
